The purge valve on a 2012 Chevy Captiva can be found in the engine compartment near the firewall on the passenger side. You should be able to notice it since it has tubing running to it and is mounted against the firewall. The purge valve is designed to allow excessive gasses from Your vehicle's emissions system to go back into the engine. When these gases enter the engine they are burnt again and that can burn off most of the contaminants so that they can be more safely expelled by the exhaust. Usually when You have a problem with Your purge valve You will get a check engine light on at Your dash that will let You know it is time to change it.
