The 2013 Chevy Captiva thermostat can be found on the coolant line that is at the bottom rear of the engine. This is what controls the flow of coolant out of Your engine and either through Your heater core or back to the radiator depending on the HVAC settings. If Your thermostat is stuck closed then Your engine may overheat because coolant is not making it back out to the radiator to cool down. If it is stuck open then You may notice that Your engine is running rough because it is not getting up to operating temperature. Usually when You have a thermostat problem You will get a check engine light at Your dash to let You know the ECU found an issue with it.
