The Ford Ranger's EGR valve should be located on the side of the intake plenum in the engine bay. You will notice it's connected to a vacuum line and a metal tube at the bottom. The EGR or "exhaust gas recirculation" valve, is responsible for re-circulating emission gases in Your vehicle through the engine. The process is key to lowering the expulsion of dangerous vapors, maximizing fuel economy and improving Your engine performance. A faulty EGR valve will result in a lean or rich fuel mixture that causes a rough idle. The tube also works with the DPFE sensor to determine the correct flow of emissions. If either component fails, the Ranger's acceleration, idle and fuel consumption will be affected.

The egr valve on a ford ranger is located against the firewall in the engine bay and is a round valve with a metal top.
