On a 2003 Ford Escape, the evaporator canister purge valve is located on the driver side near the strut tower. The evaporative emission control (EVAP) system on Your Ford Escape is designed to prevent gasoline vapors from polluting the outside atmosphere. The canister purge valve is part of the EVAP system and uses a vacuum from the engine to send the fuel vapors to the intake manifold to be used as fuel. This not only protects the environment but also helps to improve Your fuel mileage. Over time, the canister purge valve can wear out or crack. If Your Ford Escape has a Check Engine light that is on, if the idle is rough, or if You recently failed an emission test, the canister purge valve may need to be replaced.
