Usually, You'll have the block heater cord coming out through the grille on Your Ford Escape, though sometimes it'll actually be tucked under the engine hood and wrapped around the the fuse housing holder on the upper right hand (driver's) side. When it's set up like this, You'll need to leave the hood open to make use of the block heater. These cords often become frayed or otherwise compromised. If that's the case with Yours, replacing the entire cable is pretty easy: Find where the heater goes into the block and unscrew the retainer nut. You'll be able to pull off the cord plug and slide a new one on. Then, tighten the retainer nut and make use of the new cord.

Ford escape block heater cords are located in a coolant passage and heat only the coolant.
