A hybrid engine brings the best of both worlds under one umbrella. The Ford Fusion's 12 volt battery is actually stored in the trunk's wall on the driver's side of the vehicle. To gain access, remove the rear trim of the cargo bay known as "flashing". Next release the left hand wall clips and the floor panel to reveal the battery. The Fusion is driven by both a conventional gas powered engine and an electric motor, hence it is a mix or "hybrid" of power sources. Unlike a fully electric car, the Fusion is able to recharge while You actually move or brake, and not just when it's plugged into an outlet. At highway speeds, the car's combustion engine simultaneously sends power to the generator and re-charges the hybrid battery while You're driving, providing excellent gas mileage of 41 mpg.
