When the RPM gauge is not working in Your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 that is most likely a problem with one of the engine speed sensors. There are a few different sensors in the engine that measure the rotational speed of the engine and give that information to the ECU which in turn sends it to the gauges. If Your gauges are not working it could also be a problem with the ECU, usually You can use an OBD II scan tool to read the ECU and see if there are any faults detected in the system and repair them if they do exist. The last reason that You may not have a working RPM gauge is when the motor for the gauge fails, but this is less common than the other two.

If the speedometer or odometer is not working on the 2006 dodge ram 1500 then you likely have a bad speed sensor or the wires are not working.

Most likely it is the sensor on top of the rear axle
