The check engine light in Your Chevy Cruze is a warning light that can be triggered by a number of different systems in the vehicle. The emission system and the ignition system are the two main causes for this warning to come on. Of those two the ignition is by far the most common source of failure in a Cruze. Some of the more common faults that cause the CEL are mIS Fires, bad fuel injectors and even bad fuel. A mIS Fire occurs when unburned fuel makes its way out of the engine and into the exhaust where it can detonate and damage the catalytic converter. Bad fuel injectors or fuel will cause the light to come on and also have a major effect on the drivability of the vehicle.

There are a few reasons why the check engine light starts flashing in a chevy cruze, but in most cases it has to do with ignition system, which consists of the ignition coil packs, plug wires, and spark plugs.

‘14 chevy Cruze. Since day one, check engine light comes on random. Code P0420 catalyst. Then misfire. Then O2. Replaced: valve cover. Intake 5 turbos, entire exhaust, O2 sensors, plugs, coils, waterpump, inlets, outlet, exhaust manifold, EVAP solenoid and purge valve, still check engine light comes on P0420 Reset 1000 times. Funny smell sometimes when started. Do I junk it or what

Take the car to a big box parts store and have them pull the codes for you. It should be a free service. Then look up the codes they give you online and read about the causes and fixes.
