Usually the speakers in a Chevrolet HHR are going to give You a lot of years of wonderful service, often beating some aftermarket systems with just the stock option. However, like all things, they can stop working for a couple of common reasons. First, if the speakers work intermittently, this is likely going to be a short or compromised wire. That's going to be a bit of a bear to track down, but it could also be a loose connection, which is easier. Next, it could also be water that's gotten into the speakers, from windows left rolled down, leaking seals, and the like. This will also result in no sound at all from them. If all Your speakers aren't working, though, that's going to lead more towards a blown fuse, or worse, a failed head unit. This is rarer, but not impossible.

Problems with the speakers in your chevy hhr are almost always the speakers, caused by water intrusion into the door cavity.
