If the gear change indicator light isn't working on Your Ford Focus, let's get the obvious out of the way: check the fuses! You'll need to access the one in Your interior compartment, underneath the steering column. You're looking at fuse location #5, which is for the floor shifter, and fuses #9 and #10 which are for the panel illumination. If those are all fine, the next thing to check is going to be if the shift indicator itself has failed. If the cable is going bad, You'll find that the vehicle won't turn off, won't go into gear, or starts in another gear. If You encounter these, seriously, get this dealt with now. It's also possible the bulb for the indicator has burnt out.

The most common cause of a Ford Focus gear change indicator not working is a bad shift indicator or a misalignment of the indicator itself.
