A dead 3V battery is the most common reason why a key fob belonging to the Ford C-Max stops working. To fix this, You will simply need to replace the old CR2032 lithium coin cell battery with a new one. If You have changed the battery already, and now You're having a problem with the remote, it likely just needs to be reprogRammed. To do this, put the key in the ignition, but leave it in the off position. Use the door lock on driver's door to lock and unlock the vehicle. This starts a 10-minute timer. You have to progRam all fobs in this time or You'll need to start over. Turn the key in the ignition to RUN without starting the engine and return to to OFF. Do this seven times. After this, the door locks should cycle. Push the unlock button on the key fob and the locks in the vehicle should respond to let You know the progRamming has been saved. If it doesn't work, You have to start the process over again.

The main issues with the Ford S max and it's key fob are the key fobs battery going dead, and the key fob becoming unpaired with the vehicle.

I am not sure what the S max is but I have a 2013 Ford C-max Engeri meaning it's a plug-in my main remote stopped working I changed battery worked for alittle while longer may be say 3 mos then it did it again. Upon closer inspection I found a small crack in my remote button and it was allowing sweat and dirt inside and I took the board out and put it to a light and saw where some of the board got wet and was discolored. So I went online and bought a cheap remote took it to a locksmith I trust and for 50 bucks I got it program to my card. But untill then..... Your car may notdo this but mine had the broken remote program as master so when I borrowed hubby's key Iwas not allowed to go about 65 mph and Icouldnt listen to my music or phone calls at the volume Ineed cause Iam partly deaf. Was a pain in the rear. So with the broken remote put it to the steering wheel like it shows you and then use your on steering wheel buttons and turn off my key. May take a few trys but that solved the problem till ingot the new remote.
