The GMC sierra does comes standard with a backup camera. If the camera is not working then there are three common reasons why. The first is that the camera has been damaged by road debris and will need to be repaired. The second is that the wire that powers it is bad. Finally, and most commonly, the fuse that powers the system may have burnout. The fuse box is to the left of the steering wheel, under a panel that can be removed. Look for the seam. Fuses are cheap and easy to fix, so You should be able to do it for about 10 to 15 dollars.

My backup camera works intermittently and seems to not work at the most inconvenient times. It shows a triangle with an exclamation point in it and a camera icon with a line crossed through it.

How did you update the software

Some of the common reasons the GMC Sierra camera is not working are a broken fuse, a bad switch or wiring, or a poor connection. Cameras are electronic, and a software glitch may also prompt a blank screen, or one that shows only the backup guidelines, but does not show an image.

Check the spoiler on the back of the cab were the brake light is. Bet it’s full of water. That’s were the module for the camaras is.
I got a 2011 gmc sierra SLT with a mirror mounted camera display from the factory. The camera worked when it wanted to for a while or if it decided working wasn’t what it wanted to it would have a dark image followed by glitching. Well, I parked my truck for 5 days got back in it nothing. Which I thought was weird so I went to work and came home. It still ain’t displaying something only thing there is a flashing green light on the bottom left hand of the mirror, so I decided to check the connection which you can get to by removing your plate. I unplugged it cleaned it , put some electrical grease on it and plugged it back. No change so I decided to check my #43 fuse under the hood along with the vehicle backup fuse I believe that’s #15 both fuses are good. I just ordered a new camera to hopefully fix it but I’m just curious, is there a fuse for my display or is it just the one for the whole system? I did notice the spare was used when I bought the truck but the wiring doesn’t look torn up. Am I the only one with an issue like this?

Just had camera and module replaced by gmc dealer $2400.00
I went to my infotainment center and updated my software and did not fix the camera issues. The only fix was to shut off for about 10 mins and restart it. I've fix all the fuse box - I believe its the right side of the passenger seat and they all seem fine. Not sure what to do next

Camera is in tailgate handle---open and close tailgate and it started working !
Where can you update the software? I tried that at home via wifi and it says latest software is installed. Blue screen of death with the lines showing that’s allit’ll show and it happened at the snap of the fingers and hasn’t worked since.

I was having the same issue on my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500. Crawled under the truck and traced the wires and found the reciver wire had come unplugged. It doesn't seem to have a good clip system so it may happen again in the future.
