As with other electrical devices, a blown fuse, a bad switch or wiring, or a faulty connection could be Your Honda CR-Vs backup camera's downfall. Cameras are electronic, so a software glitch could also cause a blank screen or one that displays only the guidelines for backing up but doesn't show an image.Another common cause for the backup camera not to work is needing a firmware update. Personally, since the rear camera is considered an actual safety feature I would not replace it with anything other than the OEM unit. Honda has done several actual NHTSA endorsed safety recalls over software issues with the rearview cameras on some of their vehicles. They consider it a safety device. Replacing it with an alternate camera would be like replacing Your seat belts with aftermarket ones in my view.

The most common issue with the back camera in the honda crv is sudden shorting out, shutting off, due to a bad sensor.
