In most cases, if the backup camera stops working in the Mazda CX5, it's due to a blown fuse. Replacing the fuse will generally fix the problem. This is almost always the case if You are getting a no signal warning. If there is a picture, but it's blurry or distorted, the lens likely needs to be cleaned. It sits relatively close to the ground at the back of the vehicle, so it's not uncommon for it to get d***y. Use a microfiber cloth for this task. Sometimes, the picture on the screen will show in black and white static. This is due to a faulty connection. Check to make sure a cable hasn't come loose. Alternately, a wire near the ground could be frayed and will need to be replaced. If You've had service work recently and now all of a sudden You have no picture, make sure the plug for the camera is going into the video feed. If it got disconnected, it may have been put in the aux cable upon reconnection.

2018 CX 5. A few times the back up camera does not work. Black screen. Tried reset button on thescreen...nothing. Did Factory Reset for the system. Nothing. Parked car...when I started up again it worked. It's done this a few times. All other functins working ok. Do I need an exorcist?

Mark, for my 2018 CX-5, the dealership said the backup camera is tied into the same fuse for the display, radio, etc, so none of that would be working if the fuse was blown. They've done a software update as well to no avail. The next step for mine is replacing the dash harness.

If your Mazda cx 5 vehicle experiences backup camera malfunction, including a sudden loss of picture, check your wiring and attempt of reset of the vehicle's software to correct the issue.
