The Mercedes Heads Up display is part of newer automotive technology that allows drivers to view information relevant to their vehicle's operation on the bottom of the windshield instead of a traditional dash panel. The system is referred to "Heads Up" because drivers are able to keep their eyes on the road and read instrument gauges simultaneously. When the HUD malfunctions in a Mercedes it will read "HUD Inoperative". This issue can be caused by inadvertently disabling the feature, a common occurrence among Mercedes owners. To enable, use a voice activated command to "Turn on the HUD display" and the vehicle should respond accordingly. The same method may be used to switch off the feature.

If your Mercedes heads up display is not working it's usually a problem with the screen in the dash.
