The blind spot monitoring in a Nissan could experience malfunction if one of the sensors has become compromised through damage or road debris. Typically they're mounted as radar transmitting devices on the corners of the bumper. If side sensors are impaired, the lane departure warning may still work when using the camera mounted over the rear view mirror. However, BSM will fail if the radar isn't working. Typically both the Nissan's "check engine" and BSM lights will illuminate in the dash to indicate the system isn't functional. The rear view mirror BSM warnings will also be disabled. The average cost to replace a Nissan blind spot radar sensor is between $500-$1,000 in parts and labor.

If your Nissan blind spot warning is not working it's usually a problem with the sensor on the side of the vehicle.
