In a newer year Ford F-150, would You believe this is actually by design That is, there's an Auto Start-Stop feature that turns off Your engine when the vehicle isn't moving, and then restarts it when You release the brake. I think this is just a stupid design, especially in heavy city traffic, but it is what it is. Now, if You don't have one of those vehicles with that "improvement", it's likely You're dealing with a throttle body and idle air control solenoid issue. When these assemblies become d***y, they can drastically effect the idle performance of Your truck. Clean them with a carburetor spray and a microfiber cloth, and see if the issue goes away.

If your f-150 is stalling at stops, it could be that the filter is over oiler, or the iac is burning out and needs to be cleaned.
