The most common reason that You're going to hear a loud noise usually a clanking type noise coming from Your gas tank will be due a faulty purge valve. What is happening is the purge valve has failed and fallen out of it's place and is now rolling around near the gas tank. A replacement valve is going to cost You somewhere between $30 and $80 depending on if You want an after market part or an OEM part. If You're going to take it in to a shop then the total cost of parts and labor will be between $300 and $550.
