From time to time, the Honda Civic's anti theft or immobilizer will mistakenly trip, and You'll be unable to start the car for one reason or another. When this happens, there are a few things You can do to try to alleviate the problem. The first is to remove the negative battery cable for a period of fifteen to twenty minutes; this will clear some of the errors, but usually has a relatively low chance of success. On most modern model years of the Civic, You can also leave the key in the "ON" position for at least 8 minutes. This should, ideally, reset the anti theft system. Other model years necessitate additional steps with the driver's side door lock.

If a honda civic anti theft car won't start you will need to lock the door and unlock it to disable the anti theft system.
