If You find that the steering wheel buttons on Your Hyundai Sante Fe aren't working, this is a very common symptom of something called a clock spring failure. What happens is there's this spring that fits behind the steering wheel and creates a connection between the steering column and the wheel's contact strips (what You're tapping with the buttons). Usually the SRS or maybe the air bag light will come on when this fails, but not always. This isn't something You should check out Yourself, as You could set off the air bag. Any local shop should have the equipment to check this out for You. While You'll have to pay a diagnostic fee, it's usually around an hour; some shops will offer a slightly cheaper price for diagnostics, vs their standard labor rate, if You ask 'em nicely.

If the steering wheel buttons have stopped working in your Hyundai Santa Fe it could be due to broken clock spring that facilitates the connection between connection between the steering column and the steering wheel contact strips.rips.

I have read that clock spring failure can cause airbags to NOT DEPLOY. I have contacted Hyundai for recall information on this issue They said "NO RECALL ON RECORD" shouldn't an airbag FAILURE constitute a recall
