Alex Showalter
Jan 18, 2023

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze lasts around 200,000 miles with some engine software and touchscreen issues reported. At $12,075 to $15,500, it’s a great value for a compact car with improved long-term reliability ratings from earlier years.

It handles really well and it has a lot of safety features.
I love this car. I have only had it for a few months but it drives so smoothly. There is lots of room in the back seat for the kids and the trunk is very large to.

Great to have for a large family with lots of space and modern internal features.
Do not have any problems with my vehicle. It is still fairly new. Works great. It is an awesome family car. Very comfortable, has seat warmers, passenger side climate control so they can control their own ac or heat. We love the space, it is internal features. The clarity of the rear camera is awesome.

Overall great quality for a cheaper car.
Great gas mileage. Sometimes the automatic stop is very sudden and will make the car jump. Very smooth driving and good pick up. Seats are very comfortable and the radio is great quality of sound. There has been no problems in the two years I have leased.

Super fun car with a lot of style and pep.
It is great. It gets great gas mileage, has a lot of pep with the turbo for a 4 cylinder. It is very comfortable and has a great sound system. It is easy to handle and great to park. It has plenty of trunk room and leg room. It has a nice style and looks good.

Amazingly everything I could ever want in a car.
It is everything I could ever want in a car! It is literally everything I could ever ask for! It is really good on gas, which is the highlight of the car!

It is economical and fuel efficient.
It is comfortable, the rear view camera is great! It seems small but it has a lot of room plus it does great on gas. I drive a long distance for work so having a fuel efficient car is a must. I have had luxury cars in the past and this is actually my favorite car so far.

2018 Chevy Cruze(: good small family car.
I love my car! The car I had before this one didn't feel safe for me and my kids it wouldn’t speed up on the highway fast enough for merging on. But with this one I feel safe knowing my car is going to match he speeds fast enough. With my two kids really being the only ones who rode in the car with me it was perfect size wise. The back seats lay forward to make more trunk space if needed as well!

I would recommend the Cruze to anyone!
I love my Chevy Cruze. It gets wonderful gas mileage and drives very smooth. The inside is very spacious and comfortable. The trunk is also very large for a sedan. You can also fold the entire back seat down to haul large items. I have never had any issues with my Cruze. I would recommend this car to anyone.

My vehicle is a small silver car.
I like the car itself. However, it is not ideal for families. There is not enough room for a big car seat as well as other adults in the back seat. It runs well but it is just very compact. I have not had any problems with the car thus far, I make sure to keep up on its maintenance.

Nothing but problems
The good about the car - has a good pick up and go, great for road trips and its super quiet and comfortable. Ok now the bad - i bought it brand new, within the first couple weeks i had to have a whole new computer put in. Ive had the stabilitrax fixed multiple times. Now i have a cylinder 2 misfire in my engine and its back into the shop and now my warranty might not cover it. Not to mention for the last couple months my side detection hasnt been working and my airbag sensor goes off when i hit a bump. Overall i would never recommend this car to anyone. Which is sad because im a chevy lover, and this car is very good looking. But i cant get over these problems. Im stuck with the car now and trapped.

For warmer locations this car is great. For winter driving be prepared to get your Turbo thawed up to 3 times over 1 winter season. Roughly $200 labor fees.

Its the worst car I have ever owned, not only that but the company does nothing to help. I will never buy a GM/Chevy ever again.

The downfall of the Chevy Cruze
Seats are uncomfortable, it is noisy, the wipers leave streaks. The remote start does not allow the heat to come on. This is my third Cruze and is by far my least favorite car. All the 'improvements' they made were horrible. Even with these horrible changes the cost went up considerably.

Mistake
To begin with, I alerted my gn dealer of the front bumper problem which most probably don’t know about. Now my 2018 is having a turn signal malfunction. Not happy at all. When I purchased this June of 18, they had it in shop for months bcuz of the bumper problem (which there were a lot of them brand new on the lots with same problem), so when I involved gn into this issue, what a nightmare, they did not and could not fix the problem correctly and did Not offer assistance. Horrible. Beware .

Silver Chevy Cruze 2018 with small turbo.
My 2018 Chevy Cruze has auto stop and it only works half of the time. It drives rough when you are taking off and when stopping and I am pretty sure it is due to the auto stop. It has been reliable so far. It does have Wi-Fi and OnStar capability. It is sort of a small car but the seats are somewhat comfortable. It has a small turbo which makes the car have somewhat of a get up and go.

What Do Critics Say About the Chevy Cruze?

  • Consumer Reports says the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze puts all of the best features of Chevy sedans in a smaller package, with good owner satisfaction scores.
  • Edmunds rates the Cruze at 4.1/5, praising the upgraded touchscreen interface, but doesn’t like the slow performance.
  • Kelley Blue Book users give the 2018 Cruze a 4.0/5, enjoying the quiet cabin, but owners don’t like the lack of all-wheel drive in the snow.

What Common Problems Does the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Have?

Common problems found on the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze include the engine shutting off while driving, the touchscreen freezing, as well as premature brake wear. Overall, these problems are similar to some other compact cars, leading to average repair bills as the Cruze ages.

The engine shutting off while driving is the most widespread complaint from 2018 Chevy Cruze owners at around 5,000 miles. There are computer software updates for the engine control module which improves the relatability. Most dealers will install the software for free, while others charge up to $100.

The touchscreen freezing has also been reported by 2018 Cruze owners at around 15,000 miles. Again, this is usually caused by a software problem, which many dealerships will update for free. Other shops may charge around $50 to update the infotainment system software to improve reliability.

Premature brake wear also shows up on some Cruze models at around 30,000 miles. The rear brakes in particular tend to wear out quickly for a compact car since they may be slightly too small for the size of the Chevy Cruze. Replacing the rear brake pads and rotors costs around $550.

There are three recalls on the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze, which is similar to other compact cars from the same year. The most serious recall is for a potential fuel leak in a crash. Chevy will install a lock-ring on the fuel tank to prevent fuel from leaking.

How Long Will the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze Last?

A well-maintained 2018 Chevrolet Cruze can last around 200,000 miles, which is around 100,000 miles less than the long-lasting Toyota Corolla. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other small cars, according to data provided by Repair Pal at $403 per year.

As a used 2018 Chevy Cruze reaches 100,000 miles, and depending on the vehicle history, owners should be prepared to replace the mass airflow sensor for $225, a brake booster costing $400, as well as the track bar which costs around $200.

accountCircle Karen A

accountCircle Paul F

My Cruze is very reliable. I have had mine just over a year with 25,000+ miles on it. I have only needed regular maintenance and have had no problems with it.

How Is the Technology?

Entertainment technology is great with a standard 7-inch touchscreen which has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto app integration. Optional upgrades include a larger 8-inch touchscreen along with a more powerful stereo system.

Safety technology is excellent, offering a standard rearview camera, forward collision alert system, automatic emergency braking, along with front and rear parking sensors. Optional advanced safety features include a blind spot monitor, lane change alert, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, parallel park assistance, as well as Tesla’s autonomous self-driving Autopilot system.

Is the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze a Good Value?

Yes, the 2018 Chevy Cruze is a good value since there are fewer problems than in earlier years and some nice technology. The blue book fair purchase price ranges from $12,075 to $15,500, with the more expensive models being certified pre owned. The Cruze is cheaper than a Honda Civic or Mazda3. When new, the price range was $16,975 to $25,920. Depreciation is similar to other cars, losing about 12% of its current value per year.

What are the Different Models of the Chevy Cruze?

There are four models of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze offered from the base L all the way up to the Premier. The four-door sedan comes in all four models, while the five-door hatchback only is available on the LT and Premier models. Front-wheel drive is also standard on all of the Cruze models.

  • An available upgrade is the more efficient 1.6L 4-cylinder turbodiesel, which produces 137 horsepower with great gas mileage at up to 37 MPG. This engine comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

What Colors Does the Chevy Cruze Come In?

How Comfortable Is the Chevy Cruze?

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze sedan is a comfortable small car with seating for up to five passengers. It has a smooth ride and a well-cushioned cabin, which should make it a pleasant car to drive on long trips.

The front seats offer good support and should be comfortable for most people, and the reasr seats have plenty of legroom for passengers. Additionally, the Cruze is available with a variety of features that can enhance comfort, such as heated front seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control.

How Much Storage Space Does the Chevy Cruze Have?

What Are the Differences Between Years?

The second generation of the Chevy Cruze came out in 2016, and was discontinued after 2019, when General Motors ended production of many sedans.

2013: Bluetooth standard across all models.

2014: Diesel engine available as an option on the top-of-the-line model.

2015: WiFi Hotspot functionality added, new base L model introduced to the lineup.

2016: Fully redesigned for the second generation with new interior, exterior, and engine choices.

2017: New hatchback body style added, standard Teen Driver Mode across the lineup.

2018: Optional diesel engine offered on the hatchback model.

2019: Final model year of the Chevy Cruze with some minor styling changes and a 7-inch touchscreen.

How Does the Chevy Cruze Compare to the Competition?

The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze is a nice compact car since it offers decent reliability ratings, good technology, and a comfortable cabin, all while being more affordable than many competitors.

The Hyundai Elantra is another small car which costs around $1,500 more. Interior materials are more luxurious in the Hyundai Elantra, while the Chevy Cruze has a bit more passenger room. We recommend the Hyundai Elantra because it has a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, although both are good cars.

The Chevy Malibu is a larger sedan offered by Chevrolet, which costs about $2,000 more. Passenger room is better in the Chevy Malibu, while the Chevy Cruze has more standard technology. We recommend the Chevy Cruze since there are fewer problems reported by owners.

Comfortable Cruze vs dashing Silverado.
No problems yet. Did have a recall which verified that vehicle had no problems. It is comfortable and easy to drive around. While we love our Silverado, the Cruze is easier to park and it handles heavy traffic well. Mileage averages in upper 30s overall. It can get close to 50 mpg, however at that speed you will get run over thus not a safe tactic on interstates.

2018 Chevy Cruze for me and my family.
The car has a lot of front seat space, and a lot of trunk space. It is also really good on gas. However, the back seats have little to no room, for my growing 3 year old daughter and 8 year old step daughter. Other than spatial errors, there not much else to complain about.

This car drives very smooth. Majority of features and buttons are pretty easy to figure out. The mileage is good but I do wish the tank was a bit bigger. Nothing wrong with the vehicle, just not as functional for my family as it once was. We would benefit from a truck. With a crossover to do most family travel, the truck would give us more functional uses. We are hoping we can look into trading in the Cruze for a truck in the near future.

Good engine, gasoline pays a lot and it works.
My Chevrolet has heated up on several occasions this last year, I have changed the thermostat and the pump and it continues to heat up, the tank of the antifreeze and water tank was also broken by the exhaust, but I was able to solve it because its parts are not so expensive. On the other hand, its interior is very comfortable and with advanced technology, the car has good engines although they are all gasoline, its handling is smooth and its side views are enormous.

It's not a car for very tall people because of the limited leg room but it is very comfortable for smaller people. I also love the camera that is in that car because it helps me park and reverse. The car alarm when near another object makes a lot of noise.

Love Cruising in my Chevy Cruze!
We just love our Chevy Cruze! It's a small car, but once you get inside it is very roomy and comfortable in both the front seats and the rear ones too. It is equipped with lots of fun features like backup camera, Bluetooth capabilities, great stereo system, OnStar, and much more. We especially like the pickup when needed to zoom ahead. It does have one feature where when you stop at a stop sign, it goes into a gas saving mode that actually feels like the car has stalled. That took some getting used to, but now we really like it. The trunk is roomy for a small car as well. We enjoy the gas mileage and have been able to reduce our gas budget by about 25 percent from our old vehicle which is awesome. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone.

A quiet and reliable vehicle that gets you where you need to be.
I purchased my vehicle about 2 years ago from a dealership. It's a red vehicle and the seats are cloth that are suppose to be stain resistant. The car has good mileage from what I've noticed in the car. It always has a good sized reserve tank as well. The car also runs incredibly quiet people will say they didn't even hear me pull up when I arrive.

All the nice features you could want.
I love the technology that the Cruze has and all the great fb Asia features. I fell in love with the car the very first time I drove it. It is one of the smoothest driving cars I have ever owned. The inside of the car is wonderful as well so many plugs for charging and seat warmers.

This car is bigger than it looks.
I really like this car. It looks sporty but is still functional for all kinds of uses. It is really spacious. My only drawback is the blind spots are kind of big, but the lane sensors and other safety features definitely compensate for that. It is a good car for families and for singles.

2018 Chevrolet Cruze! Amazing value.
My car is fabulous. It has all of the bells and whistles and is very reliable. It is a little small, but comfortable and stylish. I have had no problems, in fact the tires just made it 60,000 miles before needing replaced. I am amazed at the features, reliability and performance. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.

I love this car - and you will too!
I am in love with this car. I know every morning when I go to leave for work I will get there safe, on time, and be comfortable doing so. I am so happy I made the choice to buy this car. It has gotten me to and from many vacations, and I have never felt more safe in a vehicle.

This car is overall simple with a basic navigation system and backup camera.
I really love the navigation system in my Chevy Cruze. The backup camera is a lifesaver! I love the design of the car and how it looks. Not too big, not too small—it’s the perfect size car for me. Sometimes the ride is not as smooth as I would like it to be. My side view mirror cover pops off easily- which is a little annoying. Overall it is a great car.

Very average car. Good gas mileage but just average other than that.
I had issues with the speakers needing to be replaced twice. Sometimes the clutch does not grip when I am shifting. Sometimes the reverse does not work. Generally the car is good but it does have problems every once in a while with shifting not grabbing or working.

Apple carplay. Good on gas. Automatic and manual.
I have had no issues from my car. A year or so after getting it I did have to change the engine filter. I found out my car had apple carplay which I love for long road trips because it shows maps for directions. It is so easy to clean interior and exterior.

Great in snow for this being a car.
No problems yet. Very comfortable as well. Even though it is a car it has a lot of leg room. The speakers are already really nice and the touchscreen is very responsive. It takes 25 dollars to fill up and will last me a whole week of not 2 weeks. I love how it has autopilot too.

It is very convenient put $28 on gas and it will last me almost two full weeks.
I love everything about my car. It is very great car. I am able to save so much money on gas. There's nothing I hate about my car.

It saves a lot of gas and it is a great family vehicle
I LIKE ITS STYLE AND THE AMOUNT OF GASOLINE IT USES. IT IS A GREAT FAMILY CAR. VERY AFFORDABLE TOO.

Great family vehicle also great gas mileage!
This vehicle is great as a family car, or to drive by yourself. If you take it on a trip it holds a lot comfortably and it is great on gas! When I go on vacation I usually visit my mom and sister. My mom's in WV so there is a lot of mountains but it takes about the same amount of gas to visit my mom as it does to visit my sister where there is no mountains. It is all around a great vehicle!

Honda Cruze is great for young people who are still working towards success.
It works great. Good gas mileage. I have never had any issues with the vehicle. It is cheap to fix, has many good qualities. I couldn't think of a better car for someone my age who is still going to school. I would recommend anyone this car who is just starting out with their life and or career.
