What should you know about Ford Edge brake recalls?

Ford announced that it was going to recall 488,594 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUVs because of leaks in the brake lines.

Those leaks:

Part 574 Safety Recall: Potential Brake Fluid Leaks

NHTSA Recall ID: 20V469000

This recall affects approximately 488,594 vehicles including Ford Edge model years 2015 – 2018 and Lincoln MKX model years 2016 –2018. The affected vehicles have front brake jounce hoses that could rupture. If they rupture, then they could cause progressive brake fluid leaks in the affected vehicles.

Auto Mechanic Pointing At Brake Fluid

Over time, a brake fluid leak results in lower brake fluid levels, increased travel of the brake pedal, and reduced braking performance. With the reduction in the rate of deceleration, drivers are put at a greater risk of being involved in a serious collision.

The rupture occurs because of consistent failure of the internal reinforcement braid because of blending and torsion over time. The rate of failure is directly proportional to how much suspension and steering motion occurs. A warning light should illuminate to let drivers know about low brake fluid.

Involved components include:

  • Right front brake hose: F2GC-2078-AD
  • Left front brake hose: F2GC-2B557-AD
  • Right front brake hose: F2GC-2078-AE
  • Left front brake hose: F2GC-2B557-AE

If your vehicle is part of this recall, you should be notified by mail. If not, you can still take your vehicle to your local Lincoln or Ford dealer to have the front brake jounce hoses replaced with hoses that have revised braid material. The replacement and service are free of charge.
