What should you know about Ford Edge transmission recalls?

The transmission issues:

  • Result from torque converter weld studs coming loose
  • Lead to vehicles losing power

In this article, we’ll go over what this transmission recall is and how it could affect you. We’ll also talk about how to get your vehicle repaired if it’s part of the recall.

Torque Converter Connections May Fail

NHTSA Recall ID: 18V390000, 17V427000

Ford is recalling some 2017-2018 Ford Edge vehicles because of issues with the torque converter weld studs. The studs may come loose, leading to a loss of momentum or movement. This recall applies to models with 2.0L gas engines and six-speed automatic transmissions. Around 25 vehicles are impacted by this recall.

If the weld studs fail and loosen, the torque converter cannot work properly. It loses connection to the engine flex plate and the vehicle will not be able to move. This greatly increases the risk of a crash, since it may happen when the vehicle is in motion.

Only 25 vehicles are affected by this issue. If your vehicle is part of the recall, then Ford will notify you, or you can check the NHTSA. Dealerships will be replacing the torque converters free of charge to alleviate the issues. This is an expansion of a previous recall, #17V-427.
