The type of oil that is recommended for the 2001 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 iS-10W-30 Synthetic for above 0 F and 5W-30 for below 32 F. The capacity for the truck iS4 quarts with a filter for the 3.9 L V6 and 5 quarts with a filter for the 5.2 L V8 and the 5.9 L V8 engine. The torque for the drain plug is 25 ft/lbs for all of the engines. Oil should be used because it helps to keep the engine clean and running smoothly. You should change the oil and the filter every 10000 miles or every 12 months, whichever comes first. The cost of a change is anywhere from $30 to $40 in labor costs.

The 3.9L V6 engine option for the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 needs 4 quarts of 10W30 synthetic oil. The 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.2L V8 engine option uses 5 quarts of 10W30 synthetic oil. The 2001 Ram 1500 with the 5.9L V8 engine optioned requires 5 quarts of 10W30 synthetic oil.
10w30 5 quarts with filter I use valvoliene high mileage semi synthetic blend for 22 yrs gas 5.9 it's got 178 k and I change it every 3500 miles avg.. Oils cheaper than engine issues..and filter the used add a quart of new cheap oil and save for chainsaw bar lube oil, then if Amy more un needed used oil local dump has a recycling tank for disposal.. Give a HOOT DON'T POLLUTE😀

You can use whichever you’d like. These days they are interchangeable. But, for the price , synthetic is your better option and will last much longer between oil changes.
Do I use regular oil or synthetic oil in a 2001 Dodge 1500 Truck 5.2 318 motor Thanks.
