The 2002 Toyota Tacoma oil type and capacity iS5W-30 and 6 quarts. Having high quality oil is important for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Old or bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. Knocking noise may come about from the engine. You could experience terrible gas mileage. A common problem is an awful burning odor. This needs to be viewed closely as soon as possible or the car might explode. Your oil needs to be changed out someday. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or so is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be problems with the engine.

The 2002 Toyota Tacoma uses the following quantities of oil for its different engines: the 2.4L inline-4 (6 quarts) the 2.7L inline-4, engine code: [M] 3RZ-FE (6 quarts) the 2.7L inline-4, engine code 3RZ-FE (6 quarts) the 3.4L V6, engine code [N] 5VZ-FE (5.5 quarts) and the 3.4L V6, engine code 5VZ-FE (5.5 quarts). All of them use the same viscosity: 5W30 synthetic oil.

I have a 2002 Tacoma PreRunner V6 (5VZ-FE) and the Toyota manual that came with the truck when I bought it brand new recommends 5W-30 conventional (10W-30 in warmer climates) and it is also stamped on the oil filler cap. Sinceconventional oil is getting harder to find and I’m at 155,000 miles, I spoke to several Toyota mechanics and a few independent mechanics I know (all ASE Certified) and they all said I can safely change over to 10W-30 synthetic blend or full synthetic without any problems, but I should flush the engine first to take full advantage of synthetic properties immediately or it will take a few changes for that to happen.
