The 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 oil type and capacity iS5w30 and 4.5 quarts. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. A common problem is an awful burning odor. This needs to be viewed closely as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. Knocking noise may show up from the engine. You could experience poor gas mileage. Your oil needs to be changed out someday. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or so is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be problems with the engine.

The base 4.3L V6 engine in the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 requires 4.5 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. All of the optional engines the 4.8L V8, the 5.3L V8 (engine code [T] T), the 5.3L V8 (engine code [Z] Z Flex), the 6.0L V8 (engine code [N] N), and the 6.0L V8 (engine code [U] U) all require 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil.

The manual don't say nothing about synthetic... If you use it, you have to keep using it and it's expensive. Find a brand you like and stick with it. Hell, my daddy had an ole wore out work truck with 400k miles on it and never used anything but Havoline 10W40!! Main thing is that you are maintaining your vehicle
