The 2003 Honda Accord oil type and capacity iS5w20 and 4.5 quarts. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with the oil at some point. A common problem is an awful burning odor. This needs to be viewed closely as soon as possible or the car might explode. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. Knocking noise may show up from the engine. You could experience poor gas mileage. Your oil needs to be changed out someday. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or so is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be problems with the engine.

I have a 2003 Honda Accord LX. My mechanic told me to use regular oil and not synthetic oil. Why regular and not synthetic?

Both engines offered in the 2003 Honda Accord need 4.5 quarts of 5W20 synthetic oil. These two engines are the 2.4L inline-4 and the 3.0L V6.

5W20 Synthetic! You need to change mechanics, he knows very little! Only have used Synthetic in my Honda and all other vehicles. The Honda has 167000 and has needed very little above and beyond maintenance. My Chevy Suburb has 321000 miles and has only had Synthetic- she's the go to car in the family. Synthetic doesn't break down like regular oil and buy a good quality Synthetic, it keeps your engine lubricated.
