The 2004 Kia Optima comes with one of two different engine options. Depending on trim level, You'll either have a 2.4L 4Cylinder or a 2.7L V6 under the hood. These, predictably, take different amounts of oil. While they both require the same type of oil (more on that later), the smaller engine will take 4.5 quarts while the larger can be filled with 5.1 quarts. As for specific engine oil, Your Optima will take a ton. SAE 5W-20 full synthetic is preferred, but in its absence, You can substitute SAE 5W-30, SAE 5W-40, SAE 10W-30, SAE 10W-40, SAE 10W-50, SAE 15W-40, SAE 15W-50, SAE 20W-40, or SAE 20W-50. The lowest numbers are preferred, but if You need to, this car will take just about anything (climate permitting).

The base engine the 2.4L inline-4 in the 2004 Kia Optima takes 4.5 quarts of synthetic oil. The optional engine the 2.7L V6 for the 2004 Optima needs 5.1 quarts of synthetic oil. Kia requires multiple viscosities based on local weather conditions: 5W20 (below 14 F), 5W30 (below 50 F), 5W40 (below 68 F), 10W30 ( -20 F to 40), 10W40 or 10W50 (above -13 F), 15W40 or 15W50 (above 5 F), or 20W40 or 20W50 (above 14 F).
