The 2005 Honda Civic can hold 3.7 quarts of oil and useS5w-20 full synthetic oil. When performing an oil change on the car You will first want to make sure that the vehicle has been parked and off for a couple of hours. Otherwise, the oil in the car will be very hot and You could burn Yourself. Find the oil pan in the engine compartment and locate the drain plug on the underside. Position a bucket under the plug and then remove it. This will allow the oil to drain into the pan. Let it do this until it stops dripping, which may take an hour or so. After it has finished dripping You can put the drain plug back on, then locate the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Using a funnel fill the oil pan to full, but make sure to not overfill. A little under is fine, but going over can lead to leaks and oil burn off. Once it is full close the port up, wipe up any spilt oil and You will be finished.

The 1.3L inline-4 for the 2005 Honda Civic and the 1.7L inline-4 (engine code D17A1 B) both take 3.4 quarts of oil. The 1.7L inline-4 (engine code D17A2 D), the 1.7L inline-4 (engine code D17A6 C), and the 1.7L inline-4 (engine code D17A7 7) all use 3.7 quarts. The 2.0L inline-4 for the 2005 Civic needs 4.4 quarts of oil. All of the available engines for the 2005 Honda Civic all use the same viscosity synthetic oil 5W20.

The manual calls for 5w20 BUT 0w20 in northeast Ohio is MUCH better for my Civic 2005 EX SE. I recommend synthetic another reason 0w20 is best since it only comes in synthetic avoiding human error.the oil uses 3.4-3.7 quarts. That small different won't matter. I'd say do for 3.5 leaving room for error.
