The oil type used on the 2005 Nissan Altima is SAE 5W-30. If You are going to buy oil for Your vehicle, make sure the bottle You are purchasing has the API certification logo on it. If You live in an area when the weather gets as low as 0F, then You should use SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40. If You want to know what the capacity of oil is in Your vehicle, You can find it here. The capacity on the QR25DE engine iS4.5 quarts with a filter and 4.25 quarts without a filter. The engine VQ35DE has a capacity of 4.5 quarts with a filter and 4.25 quarts without a filter.

The 2005 Nissan Altima's two engine options the 2.5L inline-4 and the 3.5L V6 both require 4.4 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil (preferred) or 10W30/10W40 synthetic oil (optional).
