When equipped with the 4.0-liter inline-6 engine, the 2005 Toyota 4Runner takeS5.5 quarts of 5W-30 engine oil. The 4.7-liter V8 takes the same viscosity, but requireS6.6 quarts instead. SAE 5W-30 is a synthetic fluid. It's designed to protect the engine in all weather conditions while providing the best fuel economy possible. A few recommended products include Castrol Edge, Amsoil Premium, Quaker State, Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, and Valvoline High Mileage. Toyota recommends changing the oil every 7,500 miles. However, if You do a lot of towing or off-roading or if Your daily commutes consist of a lot of stop-and-go traffic at low speeds, You may need to have this fluid changed more frequently. The average cost of an oil change in the 4Runner is $120 to $140. Labor accounts for $40 to $60 of that total.

The 4th gen Toyota 4Runner has a 4.0 V6. Not a I6. The oil capacity is the same.

A 2005 Toyota 4Runner comes with one of two engine options: the 4.0L inline-6 and the 4.7L V8. The 4.0L inline-6 takes 5.5 quarts of oil while the 4.7L V8 uses 6.6 quarts. Both require 5W30 weight of synthetic formulated oil.
