The oil type and capacity for Your 2006 Ford Explorer will be dependent on what engine model You have. The 4.0L V6 will have a capacity of 5 US quarts and require the usage of 5W-30 fully synthetic oil. The larger 4.6L V6 engine will have a capacity of 6 US quarts and need to use 5W-20 synthetic oil. Both models will have an oil drain plug that has a head size of 16mm and require 22 lbs-ft of torque in order to remove it. You should be changing out the oil in these vehicles every 7,500 miles.
