The 2006 Toyota 4Runner oil type and capacity iS5w30 and 5.5 quarts for the 4.0 L V6 engine. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

Both engine options for the 2006 Toyota 4Runner take 5W30 synthetic oil. The 4.0L V6 option needs 5.5 quarts worth while the 4.7 V8 engine uses 6.6 quarts.

The appropriate oil for 4Runner 2006 is Amsoil 5w30 or Valvoline 5w30, or I must use SL specifications.

My 4Runner has 227,000 miles and use Mobil 1 synthetic extended performance – high mileage, 5W-30 with a Mobil 1 extended performance M1-102A oil filter. I buy the 5 quart and another single quart at Walmart for a very fair price, and do it myself.
