The 2008 GMC Yukon comes in various configurations, each using one of three different engines: You might have the 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.2L (all V8s). Across each engine, You'll use 6 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil. Though it isn't recommended by the manufacturer, it's possible to use SAE 5W-40 conventional for short periods of time in its place. However, it's necessary to replace it with the recommended oil at the next available opportunity. The reason behind this is viscosity; 5W-40 is inferior, as larger numbers mean bad things for an engine. You'll always want to use the recommended oil with the lowest numbers in their weight, as they'll help Your engine run more efficiently -- even if they cost a few dollars more.
