The 2008 Nissan Altima with a 2.5 L engine takeS4.6 quarts of oil and the recommended type is SAE 5W-30, if You've got the 3.5 L V6 then You'll need 4.8 quarts but both use the same SAE 5W-30 oil. They do recommend that You use a genuine Nissan engine oil but it's fine if You use an equivalent type, just make sure You get the correct weight. If You want to go with a conventional oil You will need to make Your changes every 5,000 miles but You can change it every 7,500 miles when using synthetic. A genuine Nissan oil filter is also recommended. -

The 2008 Nissan Altima has three engine options available: the 2.5L inline-4 (engine code QR25DE E), the 2.5L inline-4 (engine code QR25DE F), and the 3.5L V6. The 2.5L, with the engine code of QR25DE E, uses 4.9 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil. The 2.5L inline-4, engine code QR25DE F, takes 4.9 quarts of 0W20 synthetic oil (preferred) or 5W20 synthetic oil (acceptable). The 3.5L V6 engine option for the 2008 Altima has a capacity of 4.4 quarts. The 3.0L V6 uses 5W30 synthetic based oil.
