The 2009 Chevy Impala had 3 different engines available including the standard 3.5L V6 and 2 upgrade options which were a 3.9L V6 and A5.3L V8. If You have the standard 3.5L engine or the 3.9L V6 then they will both have a motor oil capacity of 4 US quarts and will need to run on 5W-30 synthetic oil. If You have the more powerful 5.3L V8 engine You will need to use 5W-30 synthetic just like the other models but the difference here will be a much larger capacity of 6 US quarts when the filter is included.

The oil capacity on the 2009 Chevrolet Impala varies by engine type. The 2009 Chevrolet Impala 3.5L V6, 3.5L and 3.9L V6 Flexible Fuel Engines oil capacity is 4.0 US quarts (3.8 liters). The 2009 Chevrolet Impala 5.3L V8 Engine model oil capacity is 6.0 US quarts (5.7 liters). SAE 5W-30 is best for the 2009 Chevrolet Impala. These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness. Do not use other viscosity oils such as SAE 20W-50.

With filter change it's approximately four and a half quarts. Generally most all of the empowers of this vintage run pure synthetic oil 10w20 or 0w 20
