The 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 uses SAE 5w-30 full synthetic oil. The 4.3l engine has a capacity of 4.5 quarts. Oil keeps the internal parts of Your car's engine cool and lubricated and it also keeps the moving parts from grinding against each other thereby reducing wear and damage. The cost of an oil change for Your Silverado is between $40 and $50 for labor and between $90 and $100 for parts. You should get an oil change every 7,500 miles. You will know that it is time for an oil change if You notice increased engine noise, shaking while idling, excess exhaust, an oil smell inside the vehicle and of course if You see the Check Engine or Oil Change lights come on.

I've always used Pennzoil. The capacity depends if you have the 4.8, 5.3 or 6.2 liter.
