The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 oil type and capacity iS5w-30. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

I’m not sure where you’re getting 5w30 from but the cap on mine clearly says 5w-20. Don’t listen to that idiot.

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks with 3.7-, or 5.7-liter engines need 5W-30 oil. However, the outside temperature can change the vehicle's needs to a different oil viscosity grade. If the minimum air temperature is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, a 10W-30 oil can be used, but the 5W-30 grade is still preferred for the truck. The following capacities for an oil change with new filter: 3.6L V6 5 quarts, 5.7L V8 7 quarts.
