The recommended oil type on Your 2014 GMC Terrain is SAE 5W-30. If You happen to live in a climate that reaches cold temperatures of -20 F and below, then You're going to need to use thiS-TYPE of oil, SAE 0W-30. What engine oil does is keep the engine lubricated and clean. Having enough oil helps to preserve the life of Your engine and its parts. If I were You, I'd check Your oil often so that You're not driving around and putting pressure on Your motor. You can check Your oil with the dipstick located in the front part of Your motor.

The 2014 GMC Terrain 2.4L engine oil capacity is 5 quarts (4.7 liters) and the 3.6L engine oil capacity is 6 quarts (5.7 liters). The GMC approved oil type for the 2014 GMC Terrain is the 5W-30.

Why GMC Terrain 2.4L the recommended engine oil is 5W-30 and the Acadia 3.6L is 5W-20, does not makes sence since 2.4L is smaller engine than the 3.6L one? I ignore all about, any hel will be appreciated, thanks on advance.

I would think that the 2.4ci would run warmer in the summer and that would the reason for a little heavier viscosity weight for summertime driving to protect the engine parts.
