The 2014 Mazda3 has 12.4Cubic feet of cargo room and up to 47.1 cubic feet of cargo room in the back of the vehicle. This is competitive for a compact hatchback like the Mazda3 . With the cargo room You will be able to usually haul a few people and their luggage in the back. It should also be good for daily tasks like going and getting groceries and small things at stores. If You need to haul furniture or larger items You will need a bigger vehicle that has more room in the back. The Mazda3 is a better compact vehicle to get around town but is not really a vehicle designed for cargo.

Unfortunately, Pat T-s answer is only partly correct. The correct answer is: for the 2014 Mazda 3 hatchback the rear cargo area is 364 litres (12.85 cubic feet) which increases to 1360 litres (48.2 cubic feet) with the seat folded down. The Mazda 3 Sedans, however, have a small trunk size of just 419 litres (14.8 cubic feet). Source: I retrieved the 2014 spec sheet for my Mazda 3 Hatchback. Also, I am in the middle of choosing a new car, and there are no hatchbacks of this car category on the market that would boast a cargo capacity anywhere near Pat Ts 20.2 cubic feet. There are other sources on the net that would confirm Pat Ts 20.2 cubic feet version, but those are also wrong.
