The 2015 Acura MDX takeS5.4 liters (5.7 quarts) of SAE 5W-20 engine oil. A few popular picks include Castrol Edge, Amsoil, and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. If You put a lot of miles on Your vehicle, Valvoline High Mileage is a good choice. Acura recommends changing the oil in this vehicle every 5,000 miles, but Your service appointments may be more or less frequent based on Your driving habits. For example, if Your daily commute is long, but consists of stop-and-go speeds or if You live on a dirt road, You'll need it changed a bit more frequently. 5W-20 is designed to prevent corrosion and achieve optimal performance while helping to keep the engine cool and lubricated. The average cost to have this fluid changed in the MDX is $120 to $140, with labor making up about $40 to $60 of that total.

I looked up oil capacity because after draining my oil and replacing my filter, 5 QTs of oil was not showing on the hex pattern of the dip stick? I gradually added an additional 20 oz of oil to show full (oil line on the high side of the hex pattern). So that equates to 5.625 QTs (closer to the 5.7 QTs as suggested in comments- not 4.5 QTs. For the DIY car owner, more is better for more lubrication in the system. Less is better for the dealer minimizing cost of oil changes and the Honda company stating its environmental impact. FYI- my oil cap and manual says to use 0W-20. However, this is to help engine efficiency with thinner oil. Also, thinner oil is actually necessary in frigid environments like Canada where the MDX is a popular model. I live in the southeast where 0W oil where it will never be cold enough to be necessary. Therefore, I use 5w-20 for the same cost and better lubricant for my engine, but 0W-20 would be ok.
