The type of oil that is recommended for the 2016 GMC Terrain iS5W-30 Synthetic in all temperatures. 5W-30 means that 5 is the viscosity or the thickness of the oil at startup, w is a winteR-Classification and 30 is the viscosity or thickness when the car has been running. The capacity for the vehicle iS5 quarts for the 2.4 L 4Cylinder and 6 quarts with a filter for the 3.6 L V6 engine. The torque for the drain plug is 18 ft/lbs for both engines. What oil is for is to help keep the engine clean and engine parts lubricated to help with friction. The oil for the Terrain should be changed 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. The cost of a change is $20 to $30 in labor costs.
