The 2016 Ram 1500 with a 3.6 L engine takeS6 quarts of oil and the 5.7 L engine takeS7 quarts but the recommended oil for both is an API certified SAE 5W-20 engine oil. 5W-20 is good for year round use as it's a thinner oil and makes starting Your car in cold weather a bit easier than a more viscouS5W-30. If driving in the cold isn't really an issue where You're at then You can use A5W-30 if You prefer. Regardless of the oil weight You should try to stick with either a full synthetic oil or at least a synthetic blend. They'll give You better performance and You can go a bit longer in between changes with them. -

The 2016 Ram 1500 uses SAE 5W-20 full synthetic oil for peak performance. The Ram truck has an oil capacity of 7 quarts with a filter for all three engine types - the 3.0L V6 Turbo, 3.0L V6 Flex and the 5.7L V8.
