The 2016 Subaru Forester oil type and capacity iS5w-30 and 5.4 quarts. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is important for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into issues with this fluid at some point. Old or bad oil can cause the engine to stop working. A common problem is an awful burning odor. This needs to be viewed closely as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience bad gas mileage. Knocking noise may show up from the engine.

The 2016 Subaru Forester requires the use of a fully synthetic oil - not optional. The oil type for the 2.0L 4 cylinder engine is SAE 5W-30 and the capacity is 5.4 quarts. For the 2.0L engine the oil is SAE 0W-0 and the capacity is 5.1 quarts.

I love people talking absolutes on oil weight which is highly dependent upon your operating conditions. Yes, lighter oil can provide less friction however in extreme heat you want a little viscosity in it so it sticks to the surface of your cylinder upon start up.
