The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 oil type and capacity iS5w-30 and 6 quarts. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.
My owners manual states dxos1 0-20 synthetic blend for my 2017 silverado with the V8 5.3 engine.

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 needs a fully synthetic type oil. The 4.3L V6 engine uses SAE 5W- 30 and can hold 6 quarts The 5.3L V8 engine and the 6.2L V8 engine both use SAE 0W-20 and can hold 8 quarts.

David Pettengill and Pat T are both correct. The "editors choice" is NOT correct and can actually cause damage to your engine. The 4.8 takes 6 quarts but the 5.3 and 6.2 take 8 quarts. Please do your own due diligence and just go look in your manual.

Don't follow the advice of the first person. They're wrong. He said 6qts of 5w-30w. Not sure where he came up with that. Use 8 quarts of 0w-20w Synthetic oil
