The 2017 Honda Civic oil type and capacity is 0w-20 and 3.4 quarts. Your oil needs to be replaced eventually. Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. If You don't replace it, there will be issues with the engine. Having high quality oil is key for the engine to run smoothly. You will run into problems with the oil at some point. Bad oil can cause the engine to fail. A normal problem is a nasty burning smell. This needs to be looked into as soon as possible or the car might explode. You could experience terrible gas mileage. Knocking noise may come about from the engine.

For the person that over filled their oil........ Don't blame the post..... Blame yourself for not checking periodically in the process of filling. That's just ludicrous to blindly dump a bunch of oil in without checking every so often how full it was. Are you sure you put the oil in the correct place? Did you take the old oil out first?

This post needs to be taken down. Oil capacity for the 2.0 is 4.4 quarts of oil. I put 5.5 quarts of oil in my Honda and it went WAY over full on the dipstick. I spent the next hour draining and refilling the car's oil!

The oil type for the 2017 Honda Civic is 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil. The oil capacity for the 1.5L 4 -cylinder engine is 3.4 quarts and for the 2.0L 4 -cylinder, it's 5.7 quarts.

The important thing is you need to check your dipstick. The 4.4 qts is probably in between the minimum and maximum level and that that is good enough, but I usually fill it up to maximum level. I use a ramp and drain the oil overnight, sometimes longer if I don't need to use the car. The more used oil you drained the better. I usually used about 5.3 qts of oil.

5.7 quarts is for the 2.0 with a turbo. 4.4 is for the plane 2.0

Omg at the guy who drains his oil overnight. Crank the engine and let it run about 5 minutes to warm the oil a little or drain it about 30 minutes after a drive. Front of the car up a bit helps. 5 minutes to drain. Replace the plug. Filter change as well (hand tight only!) less than one turn after seal makes contact. Pour in the recommended amount of oil and start engine. The dipstick reading will be correct after the oil circulates and fills the filter, of course check when engine is off and car is level.
