With a dry filter, the 3.5-liter V6 engine in the 2017 Nissan Maxima holdS4.8 liters (5.1 quarts) of SAE 0W-20 oil. This synthetic fluid enhances performance and fuel economy while reducing friction and preventing corrosion in the engine. It's a bit thinner and not quite as popular as other options, but it is often a preferred choice in colder climates. Nissan recommends changing the oil in the Maxima every 5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever You arrive to first. However, Your unique driving habits and local environment will dictate Your precise maintenance schedule. The average cost to have the oil changed in the 2017 Maxima is $100 to $130. Labor makes up about $30 to $50 of that total. You can save a bit of money, if You handle the maintenance work Yourself, but be sure to reset the oil life light when You're finished.

The suggested oil type for the 2017 Nissan Maxima is full synthetic at a viscosity of SAE 0W-20. The Maxima's 3.5L V6 engine can hold 5.1 quarts of oil with a fresh filter.
Don’t use 30W,I don’t care what climate you live in. Use 0W20, a good synthetic like Castrol or better yet Mobil1. That will protect your engine unless you are driving in Hell, and then even 30W won’t help.
0W-20 is way to thin for hot climates. Best to use 30W for tropical climates.
