The two engines in the 2017 Subaru Outback use different oil types and viscosities. The 2.5l 4Cylinder engine recommends 0w-20 full synthetic with a capacity of 5.1 quarts. The 3.6l V6 engine useS5w-30, but both conventional oil or synthetic oil are allowed. The V6 oil capacity iS6.9 quarts.Synthetic oil is by far better for performance. It protects the engine due to lower levels of friction. Switching between synthetic and conventional oils will not cause any damage to an engine. Synthetic blends are a mixture of synthetic and conventional oil. Synthetic oil keeps engines cleaner. When oil travels through the engine, it picks up debris and deposits from tiny fragments of dirt and tiny slivers of metal which damage engines.
