The 2018 Subaru Outback has a towing capacity of up to 2,700 pounds with a 200 pound tongue weight ability. The vehicle has a payload capacity of 948 to 1,073 pounds depending on the options as well. The 2018 Outback also has 174 to 247 pound feet of torque based on the engine choice. The 2018 Outback's towing capacity should be enough for quads and small fishing boats but it is not really enough for a travel trailer or camper. In general if You want to tow something heavier I recommend getting a larger vehicle like a truck or full size SUV because they will have a much higher towing capacity.

Furthermore unless you have trailer breaks Subaru limits the advised towing weight to 1000 pounds. Then they have the audacity of advertising the towing capacity at 2700.

VL IS CORRECT My 2018 Outback with a Subaru hitch clearly says in the owners manual 2700 lbs towing capacity maximum and that’s a trailer with electric brakes. THE TONGUE WT LIMIT IS 200 LBS NOT 270 as John A said. I bought an Aliner camper to pull specifically with my Outback and did a lot of research. A service tech at a camper dealership previously worked for the Reese Company. He could have let them sell me a larger camper but he said under no circumstances should you exceed these limits particularly the tongue wt as it Is not only dangerous but can severely damage the suspension on the vehicle. I wanted a larger camper but limited it to a model that fit these limits and I used scales to check the tongue weight initially to load the camper in various ways.

The maximum tongue weight for the 2018 Outback is 200 lbs (90 kg), not 270.

Subaru's 2018 Outback produces between 174 to 247 lb-ft. Of torque. Being able to produce that amount of torque allows the 2018 Subaru Outback to pull 2,700 lbs. The owner's manual for the 2018 Outback limits the tongue at 270 lbs.
