A difficult start could be due to a number of things, from a dying battery to a faulty starter. But if Your vehicle has a hard time starting after sitting for just a few hours, it can cause an extra layer of confusion. When this happens, one of the most common causes is low fuel pressure. A starter (also self-starter, cranking motor, or starter motor) is a device used to rotate (crank) an internal-combustion engine so as to initiate the engine's operation under its own power. Starters can be electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic. When the starter drive gear is worn out or not engaging properly, it will often produce a grinding noise. This is similar to the one that is heard if You start Your engine and then accidentally action the ignition switch again. If the grinding symptom is ignored, it may also result in damage to the engine flywheel.

Could also be clogged fuel lines..I remember my brother could not start his old Suzuki it would crank but would not start it turned out it was his fuel lines were full of dirt. We just disconnected the lines and poked it with a close hanger and then reconnected the lines and it started right up.
